"Ties" was the company magazine of the Southern Railway System. The first issue appeared in March 1947, and the last issue was published in 1982. "Ties"
was the award-winning company magazine of the former
Southern Railway System
.
The
first issue appeared in March 1947,
and the
last issue was published in March 1982
, at which time Southern merged with the Norfolk & Western Railway and "
Ties"
was discontinued. The magazine was
published monthly through 1968
; it was issued
every two months from 1968 through the last edition
. It was considered to be
among the finest of the railroad company magazines
. All issues contain feature stories about railroad operations, company news, and many photographs; the later issues were printed in color, some with 2-page centerfold color photos.
